Programme overview
Stoves for Life is one of Eco2librium's foundational programmes. Started in 2009, with the first stove installed in 2010, the programme has reached more than 150,000 households with improved household biomass cookstoves. It has been Gold Standard certified annually since 2010.
The programme was developed to address the environmental, health, and economic challenges associated with inefficient household cooking systems. Improved household biomass cookstoves can help reduce fuel requirements, improve cooking efficiency, and reduce exposure to smoke from inefficient cooking systems.
Climate & carbon approach
The climate logic of Stoves for Life is based on improving the efficiency of household biomass use. By reducing the amount of biomass fuel needed for cooking, improved cookstoves can reduce greenhouse gas emissions associated with traditional or inefficient cooking systems. The programme's Gold Standard certification history reflects long-term participation in a recognised carbon standard and an ongoing commitment to structured monitoring, reporting, and verification.
