Workstream overview

Eco2librium is developing bamboo value chain models as part of its wider climate and conservation portfolio. This work is intended to support farmer livelihoods, ecosystem restoration, soil protection, sustainable biomass supply, and long-term project resilience.

Bamboo is not treated as a universal restoration solution. Its role must be assessed according to species, site conditions, farmer needs, ecological safeguards, harvest plans, end uses, market demand, and monitoring requirements.

How bamboo contributes

Farmer livelihoods: Bamboo can provide a productive perennial resource supporting income diversification when reliable markets and clear management systems exist.

Ecosystem restoration: In appropriate locations, bamboo can help stabilise soil, reduce erosion, and support riparian or degraded land recovery.

Biochar feedstock: Bamboo is being considered as one sustainable biomass pathway for the Kongolo Biochar Project where appropriately cultivated and harvested.

Long-term value chains: Market-oriented bamboo systems can make restoration and carbon projects more durable by creating economic reasons for continued management.
