Leadership & Core Team
Juliet Akinyi is the Biochar Project Manager at Eco2librium, where she leads the development and execution of biochar and carbon removal programs designed to enhance soil health, improve agricultural productivity, and strengthen climate resilience in rural Kenya. She plays a key role in coordinating farmers, technical teams, and partners to deliver scalable, impact-driven environmental solutions.
She holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Finance) from KCA University and is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA). Juliet brings strong analytical and leadership capabilities to her work and is committed to advancing sustainable development through innovative climate solutions.
Christopher Amutabi is the Director for Research & Impact and, also, a Board member for Ecolibrium. He oversees the monitoring, validation, and verification processes for Eco2librium carbon projects. Chris holds an MSc. degree in Applied Geospatial Science from BGSU (Ohio, USA) and a BSc. Wildlife Management from Moi University (Kenya). He has extensive experience in plant and avifaunal taxonomy, forest biodiversity monitoring, conservation, community development activities, and renewable energy. His interests include climate change mitigation and adaptation, applied science, conservation, and natural resource management. Chris completed advanced training in entrepreneurship and scaling up businesses at Transformational Business Network TBN in Nairobi. He has also taken several massive open online training courses on Ecosystem Restoration and Climate Change by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in partnership with the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD). Before joining Eco2, he worked as a Field Extension officer in an integrated conservation project of the Kakamega forest, implemented by the International Centre for Insect Physiology and Ecology (ICIPE) and as the head of Education programs at the Kakamega Environmental Education Program (KEEP).
Jane Atulo is the Assistant Director of Human Resources and Operations at Ecolibrium and also serves on the organization’s Board. She provides leadership in HR and operational management, ensuring efficient systems, effective people management, regulatory compliance, and the successful delivery of organizational objectives.
She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Procurement from Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology and is a member of the Kenya Institute of Supplies Management (KISM). Her professional experience spans roles at the Ministry of Public Works, Kakamega General Hospital, and Wamwayi & Company Advocates, where she gained expertise in procurement, stores management, and administrative and operations support.
Jane is a dedicated and highly organized professional with strong team leadership skills. She is also passionate about environmental sustainability and actively contributes to Ecolibrium’s CSR and conservation initiatives.
Anton Espira is the co-founder and CEO of Eco2librium. He holds a doctorate in tropical forest ecology from the University of Oxford and has extensive experience in conservation, forest carbon, and community-based projects. He focuses on using private-sector finance to support ecosystem conservation and sustainable livelihoods. His roots in rural Kenya give him a first-hand understanding of the links between conservation, livelihoods, and economic opportunity.
Mark Lung is a co-founder of Eco2librium and has worked in the Kakamega region since 1988. He holds a Ph.D. in Wildlife Biology from Idaho State University and has extensive experience in forest conservation, ecosystem-service financing, and community-based environmental work in western Kenya. His research has focused on forest biomass, carbon stocks, wood harvesting, and improved cookstove impacts.
John Luseno is the Assistant Director of Field Operations at Ecolibrium and serves as a Board Member of the organization. He provides strategic leadership in the planning, coordination, and execution of field operations across stove installation, biochar, and agroforestry programs, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and impact targets.
With over 15 years of experience in conservation, project management, and livelihood improvement, John has built a strong reputation in environmental and community development work, particularly around Kakamega Forest. He began his career as a forest guide and has since grown into a respected figure in conservation circles.
Prior to joining Ecolibrium, he served for six years as the Executive Secretary of the Kakamega Environmental Education Program (KEEP). He has also worked extensively on community energy efficiency initiatives, collaborating with organizations such as the International Centre for Insect Physiology and Ecology (ICIPE), the Okoa Kuni Project, and the Practical Action Network.
Hardley Malema serves as the Associate Director in the Office of Innovation at Eco2librium and is a Board Member of the organization. He leads the identification, development, and implementation of innovative projects that support Eco2librium’s mission, vision, and sustainability objectives.
He holds an Honours Degree in Finance from Mount Kenya University and has completed Certified Public Accountant (CPA) training, strengthening his expertise in finance and economic analysis. Hardley is passionate about environmental conservation and is committed to leveraging his financial background to drive impactful sustainability initiatives. He believes environmental stewardship is essential for building a sustainable future.
Gilfine Nyangasi is the Assistant Director for Finance and Legal at Ecolibrium and serves as a Board Member of the organization. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Economics and Resource Management from Moi University and is a Certified Public Accountants (CPA) finalist.
She brings extensive experience in accounting, taxation, finance, and organizational management gained through roles at Lachuta Flowers, Kamadep Guest House, Solibrium, and Ecolibrium Company Limited. Over the course of her career, she has progressed through various positions including Accounts Assistant, Administrative and Human Resource Manager, Finance Manager, Senior Manager, and Assistant Director, reflecting her strong leadership abilities and capacity to build and manage high-performing teams.
Gilfine also has several years of experience working with community groups and conservation projects focused on climate change, contributing to sustainable development and environmental stewardship initiatives.

Programme Leads Team
Brenda Imai serves as the Communications, Media, and Social Media Outreach Lead at ECO2, where she oversees media relations, digital communications, brand visibility, and stakeholder engagement. She holds a background in Mass Communication and Journalism, complemented by expertise in Photography, Videography, and Graphic Design.
Prior to joining ECO2, Brenda worked with television and radio stations in Kenya, gaining extensive experience in media production and public communication. Passionate about environmental sustainability and women’s empowerment, she leverages strategic communication and storytelling to enhance ECO2’s visibility and impact. Brenda is currently pursuing further studies in Communication at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology, Kenya.
Caleb Makalasia is the Monitoring Associate at ECO2, supporting project monitoring, data management, quality assurance, and field coordination across the organization’s programs. He holds a Diploma in Applied Biology from Eldoret National Polytechnic and has pursued studies in Biotechnology at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST). With experience in biodiversity research and field data collection, Caleb brings strong expertise in environmental monitoring and project evaluation, helping to strengthen the effectiveness and impact of ECO2’s initiatives.
Douglas Manyonyi is an Environmental Scientist and renewable energy professional with over nine years of experience in biomass energy, carbon projects, and community-based clean energy initiatives. He holds a BSc in Environmental Science from the University of Nairobi and began his career at the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA), Kenya.
He has worked across biochar, clean cooking, and solar energy projects, including supporting solar home system distribution under the Kenya Off-Grid Solar Access Project (KOSAP) with Solibrium Solar Limited.
His expertise includes biochar production, biomass feedstock management, farmer training, internal inspection systems, and digital MRV systems. He is passionate about advancing sustainable energy, carbon removal, and climate-smart agriculture with lasting environmental and social impact.
Emily Mujinji is the Operations Associate under Kilns with over a decade of experience in community development and project coordination. She has worked with ECO2 and Kilns since 2014, supporting project implementation, community engagement, and operational coordination between ECO2 and the Kilns Management Team.
She is committed to community development, focusing on improving livelihoods and supporting vulnerable groups through initiatives such as women’s economic empowerment, beekeeping, and student support programs.
Laura Muthoni is the Operations Associate - HR & Operations at Eco2librium with experience in procurement and general operations. She supports administrative functions, procurement processes, and operational coordination, contributing to the efficient management of organizational activities.
She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management (Procurement) and a Diploma in Human Resource Management, providing a strong foundation in both procurement and HR practices. Laura is also passionate about environmental sustainability, and she brings this commitment into her role by supporting efficient, responsible operational practices that align with Eco2librium’s environmental mission.
Philip Mutula
Operations Associate, Biochar Project
Philip Mutula is an Operations Associate within ECO2’s Biochar Project, supporting the implementation, monitoring, and quality assurance of C-Sink processes across field operations, including internal C-Sink inspections.
He joined ECO2 in 2019 as an intern and has progressed through various roles within the organization, demonstrating consistent growth and commitment. In 2023, he supported coordination of clean energy initiatives under the Stoves for Life Project.
He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology, specializing in networking. His academic background and field experience have strengthened his expertise in project coordination, systems thinking, and operational efficiency. His work supports ECO2’s mission to advance clean energy solutions and sustainable environmental impact.
Robin Muteheli is an Operations Associate within ECO2’s Biochar Project, responsible for supporting day-to-day production activities, field monitoring, and data management within the DMRV (Digital Monitoring, Reporting and Verification) system.
He holds a Diploma in Social Work and Community Development from Sigalagala National Polytechnic and a Certificate in Guidance and Counselling from the East African Institute of Professional Counselling, Nairobi. He brings extensive experience in community development and environmental project work, having previously worked with ECO2librium’s Monitoring Department, Family Support Institute (FASI), and I Choose Life Africa (ICLA) in youth and community outreach programs.
Robin combines field operations expertise with strong community engagement skills, contributing to the efficiency and effectiveness of ECO2’s Biochar Project.
Ruth Chebet is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) with over 8 years of experience in accounting, bookkeeping, financial management, and business support services. She holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree in Finance.
She has extensive experience in full-cycle accounting, including accounts payable and receivable, reconciliations, payroll processing, job costing, financial reporting, budgeting, and QuickBooks Online administration across diverse industries.
Ruth is committed to maintaining accurate financial records and supporting Eco2librium Company Limited in improving operational efficiency and informed financial decision-making.

Calsy Masheti
General Staff - Field
Calsy Masheti is a Field Assistant at ECO2, where he supports project monitoring, beneficiary engagement, and field survey activities. He contributes to the successful implementation of community-based initiatives through field data collection and project support. Calsy holds a Barista Certification from Nairobi Bar College and is known for his dedication, teamwork, and strong community engagement skills.
Charles Ngota
General Staff - Transport & Logistics
Charles Ngota is a Designated Driver at ECO2 with over 10 years of professional driving experience. He is responsible for the safe and efficient transportation of staff, project equipment, and materials across ECO2’s partner locations and project sites. His expertise includes operating both light vehicles and company trucks, ensuring reliable logistical support for field and operational activities.
Known for his professionalism, safety-conscious approach, and commitment to service, Charles plays a vital role in supporting the successful implementation of ECO2’s programs. He is also passionate about environmental conservation and takes pride in contributing to initiatives that promote sustainability and positive community impact.
Clide Mwelema
General Staff - Transport & Logistics
Clide Mwelema is a Designated Driver at ECO2 with over seven years of experience in professional transportation and logistics support. He plays a key role in facilitating field operations by ensuring the timely and safe movement of staff, project materials, and equipment to various partner organizations and project locations.
With a strong commitment to road safety, reliability, and teamwork, Clide contributes to the smooth execution of ECO2’s activities across different regions. His dedication to excellence in service delivery is complemented by a keen interest in environmental conservation, reflecting ECO2’s mission of promoting sustainable development and positive environmental impact.
Jane Khayesi
General Staff - Office
Jane Khayesi is a General Staff member at ECO2, responsible for maintaining a clean, organized, and welcoming working environment that supports the organization’s daily operations. She ensures high standards of cleanliness and sanitation across the office and assists with meal preparation and proper management of food supplies and essentials.
Known for her reliability and flexibility, Jane consistently supports the team by taking on additional responsibilities as needed, contributing to the smooth running of ECO2’s operations.
Lilian Muhati
General Staff - Operations
Lilian Muhati is a member of the ECO2 Operations team serving as General Staff, supporting day-to-day field and production activities. She plays a key role in biochar production at the Biochar Production Site, contributing to efficient and consistent production processes.
She is a dependable team member who also supports broader operational activities as needed, helping ensure smooth implementation of ECO2’s field and production work.
Nobert Muteshi
General Staff - Field
Nobert Muteshi serves as General Staff - Field at ECO2, supporting field-based monitoring and project implementation activities. He is responsible for collecting field data, maintaining accurate records, and submitting timely reports to supervisors.
Prior to joining ECO2, Nobert worked as a forest scout at Kakamega Forest, where he gained valuable experience in field operations and environmental conservation, which he continues to apply in his current role.
Noris Temba is a member of the ECO2 Field Team, serving as General Staff – Field. He supports the implementation and monitoring of ECO2 projects through field coordination, data collection, and follow-up activities to ensure effective execution.
He also serves as a Project Manager at Kilns NGO, where he supports beekeeping initiatives by working closely with farmers in hive monitoring and management. He holds a Diploma in Project Management from Sigalagala Technical Institute and a Certificate in Apiculture, combining practical and organizational expertise in community-based environmental work.
Noris is a committed team player who contributes to the efficiency and success of ECO2’s field operations through active engagement in monitoring and project support.
Pius Oliver Mudanya
General Staff - Caretaker
Pius Mudanya is the Caretaker at ECO2’s Biochar Production Site, responsible for maintaining the facility and ensuring smooth day-to-day operations. He plays a key role in keeping the site clean, organized, and functional to support efficient biochar production.
He also assists in biochar production activities, contributing to the overall productivity of site operations. With a background in agriculture and health, Pius brings valuable experience from previous roles in various organizations, strengthening his practical understanding of field and community-based work.
Protus Siteti
General Staff - Office
Protus Siteti is the General Caretaker at ECO2, responsible for maintaining cleanliness, order, and general upkeep of the office premises. He ensures a clean, safe, and well-maintained working environment for staff and visitors.
He is flexible and supports various office tasks as needed, contributing to the smooth running of daily operations.
